Croatian Book Month 2025 at the Pakrac Public Library
Topic: “Selected by Librarians”
October has arrived, and with it one of our favorite and busiest times of the year – the Month of the Croatian Book! This is the first MHK in our new space, which will certainly give a special dimension to all planned events. From October 15 to November 15, in our library we will celebrate everything that books are: stories, encounters, discoveries… but also those who lovingly connect them with readers – librarians. The ambassador of this year’s Croatian Book Month, dear colleague Maja Lesinger, director of the Libraries and Reading Rooms of the City of Prelog, described our species in the following words in part of her ambassadorial text:
“Their superpowers may not include the ability to fly, superhuman physical strength, or laser beams shining from their eyes, but they absolutely border on the supernatural. A librarian can solve a complex online query, organize activities for the entire Croatian Book Month, explain to an elderly gentleman how a search engine works, wipe the nose of a crying child, stamp the date in a book for a teenager who just found that title on BookTok, and at the same time stand on one leg while holding the door open for a lady leaving the library with the other. They do all this with a smile and incredible calm, because it is a completely ordinary day, and before break, on a Monday.”
Multitasking (for lack of a better Croatian word, we will resort to this anglicism) has become our trademark, but that is the charm of our, not our job, but our true calling – and we will show it again this year through the program we have prepared and through which we will celebrate reading, books, writers, art, and socializing for a month!
There will be films, stories, meetings with writers, readings aloud, prizes and surprises… everything that creates the special warmth of our library world.
